JWST Galactic Centre HiPS

Four mosaics preloaded over MeerKAT 1284 MHz, plus a background-matched MIRI variant. Toggle and blend them.

Base survey

MeerKAT 1284 MHz Stokes I (Heywood et al. 2022) is the default base, by request. It covers roughly 6°×3° around the Galactic Centre and goes blank outside that, so switch to VVV DR4 H or 2MASS when panning away from the centre.

F212N−F480M > 4 (AB): 779 sources across 20 fields, matched at 0.1". Click one for its colour, observation and provenance. 299 come from eight fields cataloged in NIRCam module A only — half a tile each, and with no vetting pass on the F480M side, so an extreme colour there can still be a cross-filter mismatch rather than an embedded star.
655 sources, B3 + B6. Ginsburg+2018 / Budaiev+2024; sources with a Ginsburg+2018 identifier carry it.

1735 compact continuum sources, Wallace+2026 (v0).
5376 IFU positions across 6 pointings and 55 OBs, graded A/B/C. One marker per arm, not per pointing: each is where a single KMOS IFU sat. Click one for its pointing, OB, arm and grade.
The 58 stars FGS was pointed at, read from the guide-star exposures themselves, labelled with the observation each was chosen for. Click for the GSC 2.3 id, FGS magnitude, ID order, catalogue position uncertainty and outcome. 15 were reached only after an earlier candidate failed.
In red: the 11 stars chosen for the 7 visits that never reached fine guide — which is why those seven fields are missing. Click one for the rung the ladder stopped at: identification (o099, o103, o115, o119), acquisition (o104, o110) or track (o136, which held the star and then lost it). Read from the FGS guide-star exposures, which exist for every visit that was attempted whether or not any science data followed.
The 7 pointings the survey is missing, at their planned position. Each has guide stars in the red layer above; none of them produced science data.

Proper motion vectors1
Same fit as the catalogue overlay above, drawn as vectors. True JWST-JWST displacement over the ∼2.0 yr baseline is a few mas at most, so arrow length is amplified 200× to be visible -- read direction and relative length, not absolute scale, off the plot. Only trustworthy fits (isolated, dominant match, err <3 mas/yr) are drawn. Cloud e/f has no Treasury counterpart catalog yet: astrometry is done for its overlapping tiles (o111/o112/o113/ o117/o118) but source photometry has not been run on them, so there is nothing to match against.
JWST focal plane5
The whole observatory at one pointing's own attitude: NIRCam's eight SW detectors and two LW, MIRI's imager, both FGS guiders and NIRISS, at that observation's PA_V3. Every aperture is projected through a single attitude anchored on NRCALL_FULL — the aperture APT points at — which is what puts the parallels where they were rather than on top of the prime.

Provisional astrometry. The GC Treasury layers (program 10678) have no astrometric offsets table yet, so they sit on the raw assign_wcs frame with no measured tie to VIRAC2/Gaia. Do not read absolute positions off them.
